Keeping it Cool: Lighter Favorites for Summer 2025

Back in 2022, I posted about lighter food I recommend for the oppressively hot summer days. Some of those restaurants have since closed, so I figured it was time for an update.

Ricemill

A new addition to downtown in the CityScape area, this place does a build-your-own bowl with Asian-inspired flavors. It’s my new work lunch obsession, great for vegetarian options.

The DinerSaur

They’re primarily a bakery, but they have absolutely delicious sandwiches. They have a lunch special with cold sandwiches during the week and hot mini sandwiches on they weekend. I recommend anything with the green goddess pesto or the spicy fruit jam!

Clever Koi

I like this restaurant anytime, but they’re a great place for a light, veggie-heavy dinner or lunch. Especially in a Phoenix summer, the chilled sesame noodles are fantastic.

Mon Cheri

This is an extremely adorable pink restaurant, with a Turkish-inspired menu. Their cocktails and mocktails complement a refreshing menu.

Sottise

I love this spot for a date or a group to share small plates. They recently started a happy hour with deals on oysters and rosé, perfect for a summer night out.

Honorable mentions: I’ve recommended these places enough before, but I always like bruschetta or the cauliflower appetizer at Postino, sushi at Harumi, or any of the salads at Glai Baan.
