There’s an infinite amount of things to do in Phoenix, but here are some of my favorite ways to check two things off your to-do list at once.
Modern Manor + Valentine
Combining brunch and a little home decor/antique shopping is what this place is made for! Whether you just want to snack on a fun pastry and some coffee or you want substantive brunch, Valentine is a great choice. While you might not want to go late night furniture browsing at Modern Manor, my favorite way to experience Valentine is their dinner menu.

Changing Hands + First Draft
Changing Hands is a local bookstore, and First Draft Book Bar (located inside) elevates it to the next level of coolness. Come to browse for a book and stay for coffee, lunch, or happy hour.

This is also one of my favorite places to work from home. Weekend work feels better with a brown butter chocolate chip cookie and some kombucha on draft.
Clever Koi + Across the Pond

Clever Koi is one of my favorite Phoenix restaurants. The fact that they’re across a sidewalk from a trendy cocktail/sushi concept just sweetens the pot. The location has good parking and is right near the light rail, making it a convenient place to meet anyone. I love their outdoor patio seating.
Both Clever Koi and Across the Pond do a happy hour and a reverse happy hour before closing, so time your visit wisely and save some money!

The Farish House + FilmBar
Not enough people know about The Farish House! I was brought here on a first date and I was impressed both by how great the choice was and how I didn’t know about it before.

Located next to Songbird Coffeehouse, this beautiful former home is a classy, intimate place to have dinner and drinks. Their wine list is phenomenal and the menu does not disappoint. They have plant-based options but if you’re not a carnivore, I recommend a cheese board or their vegetable “lasagna.”
The FilmBar is one of the coolest spots in Phoenix. There’s nowhere else to see the movies you can see here. From cult classics like Rocky Horror and The Room to midweek musical singalongs to foreign films, this small theater is a personal favorite and a true local treasure. Lately, I’m enjoying their reopening via the outdoor screenings at The Pemberton. It’s a great way to get out of the house while still following health precautions. However, if the heat is too much, they’re also back inside at the original location and in special screenings at the Orpheum Theater!
